The photograph was taken by Martin Magli. The 85c stamp features the 13th-century Bottmingen water castle. This photo was submitted by Magli for a stamp-design contest, which he won. He offered three other photos taken by him for Christmas stamps.
The 1.50fr stamp depicts a village named Bedretto situated under the Nufenen Pass in Ticino. The 2fr stamp shows the 18th-century stone bridge in St. Ursanne.
