Silver Nazarana Rupee of Jaswant Rao

The princely state of Indore is located currently in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. Until the end of the 15th century, Indore’s original nucleus was a riverside village which occupied the bank of river Saraswati. Presently, this area is known as Juni Indore.Jaswant Rao ruled the Indore state from 1798 to 1811 AD. The only coin ever minted in his reign was silver Nazarana Rupee. These coins bear the Sanskrit or Persian legend.
One of his silver Nazarana Rupee which issue in the name of Muhammad Akbar II was sold for INR 14,000 by Classical Numismatic Gallery. The obverse of a coin showed the Persian legend ‘Maharajadhiraja Jaswant Rao Holkar Bahadur, on top Az Saheb-e-Khilafat Sayyed Rafi’. The reverse of a coin depicts the legend ‘Sikka Mubarak Saheb-e-qirani Sani Sultan Muhammad Akbar’.
