20th Anniversary of WHO and the Stamp of Afars and Issas

The French Territory of the Afars and Issas issued a commemorative stamp to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of World Health Organization on 4th May 1968.Formerly French Somaliland, the Afars and the Issas were two groups that had traditionally lived in the area. Afars and Issas used its own stamps from 1967 until 1977, when it gained independence from France.
The stamp issued to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of WHO was the First Commemorative issue if the French Territory of Afars and Issas. The 15 francs stamp depicts a flower bouquet in the centre flanked by a sun on left and the logo of WHO with the words “ORGANISATION MONDIALE DE LA SANTE” with the year 1948 – 1968.
The Afars and the Issas was the name of the area that became the modern country of Djibouti in Eastern Africa.
