Orchha is a state of beauty and mysteries which will leave you spellbound. This state is located in the north-central part of Indian which is surrounded by forest. The main features of Orchha are its palace. This man-made architecture is a beauty which explains the engineering brilliance of its time and glory of their Kings.Rulers of Orchha minted coins in copper and silver. These coins were known as Gaja Shahi because it most commonly bore the symbol of a mace (Gaja) on the reverse. Vikamjit Mahendra ruled the state from 1796 to 1817 AD. During the reign, he introduced copper and silver coins in the denomination of Nazarana two Rupee, Rupee, and Paisa.
Represented here is a beautiful silver Nazarana Double Rupee of Vikramjit Mahendra of Orcha. This rupee was minted in the name of Shah Alam II in 1314 AH. The obverse of the coin is inscribed with Persian legend which is read as ‘Sikka zad bar haft Kishwar saya fazal e Ilah, hami din Muhammad Shah Alam Badshah’. The reverse of this coin bears the legend ‘Zarb Orcha Sanah 24 Julus Mainamat Mainamat Manus’.
Todywalla Auctions sold this rare coin for INR 1,40,000.
