Gemini Ganesan was a legendary Tamil actor who rose to fame from 50’s to early 70’s. India post had released a commemorative stamp in 2006 to honour the king of Romance of India. The 5 rupees stamp features a close-up photo of Gemini Ganesan along with another picture from one of his films.The most adored icon of the Indian film industry, Gemini Ganesan was born on 17th November 1920 in Pudukottai of Tamilnadu. He began his film career with Miss Malini in 1947. He has gifted us with many memorable Tamil Films ones being Penn, Kanavan Kankanda Deivam and Missiamma gave him a star status.
The eternal romantic hero of the silver screen, Gemini was nicknamed “Kadhal Mannan” (King of Romance) for the romantic roles he played in films. He was awarded various prestigious honours and award such as Padma Shree, Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actor, Filmfare Award for Best Tamil Actor, and Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award.
