Baptism Of Poland Commemorated On Banknotes

Poland has officially announced that they have plans to introduce 30,000 pieces of a 20-zlotych banknote on 12th April 2016 commemorating the 1,050th anniversary of the “Baptism of Poland,” when King Miezko I and the majority of his court were baptized in 966 AD.

The new notes are in major colours blue and red. The obverse features the coat of arms with crowned eagle, Dobrawa (Doubravka of Bohemia) and King Miezko I, ornate cross and the floor plan of church as registration device. The reverse features the floor plan of church; Gniezno Cathedral; and the royal chalice of Trzemeszno. Security features include a windowed security thread with demetalized NBP 20 and an unknown watermark with electrotype 20.
