James K. Polk was born on 4th March 1845 to a slaveholding family in North Carolina, as the eldest of 10 children. When Polk was a child, his family moved to Tennessee where he continued to study further. James K. Polk had completed his graduation from the University of Carolina at Chapel Hill in the year 1818; He completed his studies in law under a leading Nashville attorney.In the year 1820, he opened his law firm in Columbia. He entered politics in 1823 when he was elected to the Tennessee House of Representatives. In 1825, Polk was elected to serve in the US House of Representatives. He was re-elected several times and became Speaker of the House in 1835. He had also served his country as 11th President of United States from the year 1845-1849.
The United States of America had issued a one dollar commemorative coin with his portrait on the obverse side of the coin.
