3D Ginko Leaf Coin From Samoa
2016-03-17 Thu
Another advancement in numismatic technology has been the depiction of 3D imagery on coins. This special coin from the Gold Leaf Collection of Samoa released in 2014, features a Ginko leaf in 3D.Ginkgos are large trees, normally reaching a height of 20–35 m with an angular crown and long, erratic branches. It is usually deep rooted and resistant to wind and snow damage. During autumn, the leaves turn a bright yellow and shed within 15 days. A combination of resistance to disease, insect-resistant wood and the ability to form aerial roots and sprouts lets ginkgo trees live upto 2,500 years.
Ginkgo is a shade-intolerant species that grows best in environments that are well-watered and well-drained. The species thrives in the "semiwild" stands, along stream banks, rocky slopes, and cliff edges. Accordingly, ginkgo retains an impressive capacity for vegetative growth.
