2016-03-17 Thu
The Brenham meteorite fell to Earth approximately 20,000 years ago, and some pieces of it can be owned by you now! Yes, the 2012 Fiji coin encapsulates pieces of this cosmic beauty. Can’t believe it, right?Brenham is the biggest ever Pallasite, a class of stony iron meteorite which weighs 4.3 tonnes, found. It was discovered in a Kansas field in 1882 and today it is housed at a Kansas Museum. It features large and lovely olivine crystals that appear suspended within the stone-iron metal mass.
The obverse displays an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II with her name, face value, issuing country, and date noted. The reverse bears a colourful spectrum of space with a detailed silver depiction of the meteorite along with the capsule which contains original pieces of this celestial body.
