Balban's Gold Mohur Sold For INR 40,000

This Beautiful gold mohur was issued by the Sultan of Mamluk Dynasty of Delhi Ghiyath Al-Din Balban. Ghiyath Al-Din Balban was one of the prominent Sultans of Delhi Sultanate. He ruled the Delhi Sultanate form 1266 CE to1287 CE. He was purchased as a slave and was brought to Delhi by Iltutmish in the year 1232 CE. Like his master Iltutmish, he was also rose to the power and became the sultan of Delhi. But, his journey from being a Slave and raising to sitting to the throne of Delhi was not less than a miracle.This gold tanka was sold for INR 40,000 at Todywalla Auction, held in Chennai on 6th October 2018. The obverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Al-Sultan Al-Azam Muizz Al-Dunya Wa’l Din Abul Muzaffar Balban Al-Sultan’ and reverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Al Imam Al-Mutansir Amir Al-Mu’minin’ within a circle with mint name Hadrat Delhi and date written in the margin.
