2018 Remembrance Day Coin
2018-10-23 Tue
Remembrance Day is observed every year on 11th November to honour the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives during World War I. The Royal Mint releases a new coin every year to mark this day as well. Like every year, this year’s coin also features a poppy which symbolises the day and its traditions.Royal Mint coin designer Laura Clancy created the coin design. She had also created ‘Falling Poppies’ design for 2014 Remembrance Day coin, Portrait of Britain series featuring landmarks and 150 years of the Salvation Army coin.
Laura visited several museums, cemeteries and memorials in France and Belgium for inspiration. She had included bigger poppies and inscriptions in her earlier design. This time though, she has kept the design simple.
The coin is offered in different finishes and versions such as Brilliant Uncirculated, Silver Proof and Silver Proof Piedfort finishes. A portion from the money earned through the sale of these coins would be donated to Imperial War Museums, to fund their research and related activities.
