Coin of Muhammad Shah I of Bahmani Kingdom

As one of the greatest medieval kingdoms of Deccan, the Bahmani kingdom was the 1st independent Muslim Sultanate which ruled the Deccan Plateau in South India from 1337 CE to 1548 CE. It was established by Turkic general Ala-ud-Din Bahman Shah after revolting against the Delhi Sultanate of Muhammad bin Tughlaq. It is from his name that the kingdom came to be known as “Bahmani” Kingdom.Muhammad Shah I was the second ruler of the Bahmani Sultanate. He succeeded his father Ala-ud-Din Bahman Shah. His reign from 1358–1377 AD was marked by a series of wars between his kingdom and two neighbouring kingdoms, the Vijayanagara and the Warangal under Kapaya Nayaka. He was succeeded by his son Alauddin Mujahid Shah (1359-1375 AD).
The coin depicted beside is a 12.82g Gold Dinar struck in Hadhrat Ahsanabad Mint, AH 773. The obverse of the coin depicts an Arabic legend “al-Sultan al-Ahd wa al-Zaman Hami Millat Rasool al-Rahman”. The reverse has in circle “Muhammad Hasan Bahamani”, and around “Darb Hizz al-Dinar Fi Hadhrat Ahsanabad Sanah Thalath Saba'in wa Saba'amayah”.
