Silver Half Tanka of Muhammad Shah II of Malwa Sultnate

The Malwa Sultanate was a late medieval independent Sultanate of the Turkish origin in the Malwa region. In the present-day, it is located in the Madhya Pradesh state of India. It was founded by Dilawar Khan Ghori, the governor of the Delhi Sultanate, who asserted his independence in 1392 AD.Muhammad Shah II ruled the Malwa Sultanate from 1511 to 1516 AD. During the beginning of the reign he started issuing coin in the name of his pretender Mahmud Shah II, some coins from these series are known in silver and copper.
Depicted above silver half Tanka of Abul Fath type was issued in the reign of Muhammad Shah II. The Persian legend ‘Al Wathiq Bil Malik Al Samad Abu'l Muzaffar Muhammad Shah’ is inscribed on the obverse of a coin. The reverse of a coin bore with ‘ Bin Nasir Shah Al Khalji Al Sultan Khallada Mulkahu’.
