A rare silver two pence 1971 error coin brought more than 800 Euros to The Royal Berks Charity which is used to fund vital equipment for a hospital. The unusual two-pence coin was put on auction and sold for £802.03. There are some other such coins that might go unnoticed otherwise, but are real gems due to its rarity.

Kew Gardens 50p coin

Only 210,000 of silver piece 50p coins were released in 2009 to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Royal Botanic Gardens. Since one in every 300 people in Britain are thought to have the Kew Gardens 50p, the coin fetches up to 120 Euros.

Rare London 2012 Olympic swimming 50p coin

Some commemorative 50p pieces celebrating Olympic and Paralympic swimming featured a design in which the water was thought to mask the swimmer’s face too much. The coin was redesigned but there is no information about how many were struck with the initial design, according to the Royal Mint. One of these rare coins sold for £820.

Undated 20p

There are thought to be a few undated 20 pence pieces in circulation, thanks to a 2008 error in the minting process. The coin without a date can be swapped for at least £100 at The Royal Mint's office in London - or sold for more on eBay.

There are 485,5000 of the rarest £2 in circulation. It can be sold on eBay for around £25, whose value would definitely increase with time.

The rarest £1 coin is the 2011 Edinburgh design, with a mintage of 935,000. The coin will typically sell for up to £5 on eBay but its value will always be on the rise as time progresses.
