Nawab of Bengal's Gold Mohur Sold For 60,000

This gold mohur which weighs around 11.5g, minted in Azimabad was issued by the Nawab of Bengal in the name of Mughal ruler Alamgir II. The Nawab of Bengal were the rulers of the provinces of Bengal and Orissa between 1717 CE and 1765. They were the subordinates to the Mughal Empire. Siraj-Ud-Daulah was the last independent ruler of Nawab of Bengal. In the year 1757 CE, he was betrayed in Battle of Plassey by Mir Jafar; who later took over the political power of in Bengal.This gold mohur was sold for INR 60,000 at Todywalla auction held in Chennai on 6th October 2018. The obverse of this coin is inscribed with the name and title of Mughal emperor ‘Alamgir II’ and the reverse of the coin is inscribed with the Julus formula, mint name and regnal year 5.
