The Sikh Empire is also known as Sikh Khalsa Raj, Sarkar-i-Khalsa or the Punjab Empire. The Sikh Empire was one of the major powers of the Indian subcontinent. The Sikh Empire was established in the second half of the eighteen century by Maharaja Ranjit Singh, who is also known as Sher-e-Punjab; and they diminished with the with the annexation of Punjab by the British Empire in the year 1849.The Sikh had struck their coin almost form 20 mints. All the coins remained uniform from start till the end of their empire. The rupee coin which they had issued has the religious legend over it, but it never mentions the name of the issuer. Amritsar was the main economic and religious center; it had also produced one of the most complex systems of mintmark in modern India.
This Silver Half-Rupee which weighs around 4.7g was issued form the mint Amritsar. It bears the Nanakshahi couplet with the Vikram Samvat date 1885. This coin is estimated for 1,70,000 in the upcoming auction of Todywalla which will be held in Chennai on 6th October 2018.
