Coin of Danujamarddana Deva

In the death of Ilyas Shah’s descendant Azam Shah, Ganesha, a Hindu ruler of Bengal took an advantage of the weakness of Ilyas Shahi Dynasty, seized the power of Bengal and was manage to sit on the Bengal throne under the title ‘Daujamarddana Deva’, and therefore he imposed Hindu rule on Bengal. ‘Danujamarddana Deva’ ruled the Bengal form Hijri Year 819 till 821 CE.After becoming the king of Bengal, ‘Danujamarddana Deva’ had tried to control the large part of Bengal; he had also issued the coin inform the mint Pandua (Firuzabad), Sanargaon and Chatgaon.
This silver Tanka was issued by him from the mint Pandunagar, weighs around 11g. The obverse of this coin is inscribed as ‘Sri Sri Danuja Marddana Deva’. The reverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Sri Chandi Charana Parayana’.
