Book Filled with Rare Specimen Banknotes Auctioned for £205,000

Tring Market Auctions sold a book full of wonderful specimen banknotes printed by Waterlow & Sons for a record-breaking £205,000 at Hertfordshire saleroom. Waterlow & Sons was one of Britain’s largest printers of banknotes, postage stamps etc. which had factories in Dunstable and Watford.The Book belonged to a man who worked at Waterlow’s. The owner is no more, and the book was brought to the auction house by his wife. The Man received the book when one of the factories was shut down. The book is in great condition and has tissues between each page. It had an estimated value of £500-700 and was sold to a buyer from London. It had 70 specimens and 10 share certificates. There were many bidders for the sale and nobody expected that the book would be auctioned for such a high value.
Some of the highlights included a 50 dollar note from Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corporation, 100 dollar note from Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corporation, 500 dollars specimen note from Chartered Bank of India Australia and China, 10 dollars specimen note from Chartered Bank of India Australia and China. Some of the Chinese specimen notes were publically auctioned for the first time. Some of these Chinese notes have a market value of £50,000 while many other rare ones have a market value of £10,000.
