Yashwantrao Balwantrao Chavan, first Chief Minister of the state of Maharashtra was born on 12th March 1913.Yashwantrao Chavan was also the 5th Deputy Prime Minister of India, a strong Congress leader, co-operative leader, social activist and writer. He was popularly known as Leader of Common People. He worked for the betterment of the farmers.
The Government of India issued a commemorative postal stamp in memory of late Yashwantrao Chavan, showing his portrait. The stamp was released by Hon. President of India, Smt. Pratibhatai Patil, at Y.B.Chavan Centre’s main auditorium on 22nd December 2010.
