Issued between 1899 and 1922 San Marino's Statue of Liberty stamps are new and improved type of stamps.Definitive San Marino stamps first appeared 1877, representing this very special little mountaintop republic in Northern Italy. San Marino is the oldest continuous sovereign state and constitutional republic in the world, having originally been founded, as a monastic community, over 1,700 years ago.
Two new definitive series of San Marino stamps were issued beginning in 1899 and in 1903. In the year 1899 a set of two stamps was issued featuring San Marino's Statue of Liberty. The statue is located in Liberty Square in front of the Government Palace in the City of San Marino.
The stamp features the scepter holding statue of liberty flanked by the words “FRANCOBOLLO” and “PER L’INTERNO” and the denomination 2cents at the bottom, “POSTALE” at the top and “REP. S. MARINO” at the bottom.
