The third king of the Mughal dynasty to occupy the throne of Delhi was Jalaluddin Muhammad Akbar. He was born on October 15, 1542, at the house of a Rajput chieftain Rana Vishal at Ambarkot. At the age of thirteen years Akbar ascended to the Mughal throne in Delhi.The coinage of Akbar reflects the power of this mighty emperor. They are the most exquisite and varied among the ones that were minted by other Mughal emperors.
Depicted here is a copper quarter Dam or Damra of Akbar. This coin depicts the Ilahi date 33 on its obverse while reverse of a coin inscribed with the domination ‘Damra’.
,br> A series of coins bearing only the denomination was struck soon after Akbar celebrated the 'Islamic Millennium' in AH990. This comprised 'Nisfi', 'Rub'ai', 'Damra', 'Damree' and the rare small denomination 'Jital'.
