Latest US Coin Honours Cumberland Island National Seashore in Georgia

The US Mint launched its 44th coin in America the Beautiful Quarters Program on 30th August celebrating Cumberland Island National Seashore in Georgia. It is also the fourth release of 2018 from the series. A total of 52 coins will be released in this series and each one will honour national parks and other national sites of the US. Five coins would be released annually and in the order of establishment of these sites.Spread across 9,000 acres, Georgia's Cumberland Island National Seashore is known for its beautiful wildlife and shores. Visitors from all over the country come here to camp, fish, bike, and kayak. The site is also home to many migratory birds who settle here during warm seasons.
The reverse design depicts a snowy egret on a branch at the edge of a salt marsh. Other inscriptions include “CUMBERLAND ISLAND,” “GEORGIA,” 2018,” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.” An Artistic Infusion Program artist named Donna Weaver created the reverse design. The obverse depicts a 1932 portrait of George Washington by John Flanagan along with texts “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “QUARTER DOLLAR.”
More than 800 people had attended the launch ceremony. School students entertained the guests with songs. Several important dignitaries from the Government and US Mint gave their speeches; the ceremony ended with a coin exchange event.
