Star of Hope Charity Stamp of USSR is a unique stamp among the set of four charity stamps issued in the year 1922.The young Russian Soviet Federated Socialist Republic had enough problems in establishing their socialist government which triggered the yet another disaster. The Russian Famine of 1921-1922 affected the Volga and Ural River regions. A drought in 1921 worsened the problem and turned the situation into a worldwide tragedy.
During the course of the famine, it is estimated that over six million people died of starvation. In order to generate fund, the Russia Post issued a series of charity stamps between 1921 and 1922 for a single purpose, and that was for one of the worst famines in modern history.
In the year 1922, a set of four imperforate stamps were issued among which the 4,000 Russian kopeks is a distinct and interesting one. The stamp was issued in a triangular shape which is printed in with rose colour on white.
The stamp features a star of hope at the top and wheat crop in the centre. The stamp shows Worker-Peasant Handshake which denotes the collaboration of two important parts of communist ideology to make the nation stronger.
