Oswal Antiques has commenced an auction on 1st September in World Trade Centre, Mumbai. In this lot, various coins of silver, copper and gold of ancient, medieval India are bided. There are coins of the Sultanate, Mughals, IPS, IS, EIC with different foreign coins. It will also bid paper currency and other accessories. One of the striking specimens from this lot is the gold dinar of King Kumara Gupta, it weighs around 7.97 grams.The obverse of this coin depicts a nimbate king standing in the centre, he is wearing a headband and dhoti in Tribhanga Kaya. It is holding a strung in one hand and an arrow in the other. The Garuda banner is illustrated in the background with Brahmi legend ‘Maharaja ‘partially visible and ‘Kumara’ below the hand holding bow.
The reverse of this coin depicts goddess Lakshmi in a seated form (cross legged) on a lotus with lotus in one hand and another holding a noose. A Brahami legend ‘ Shri Mahendra’ in the right field and Tamgha in the left.
