The Royal Canadian Mint has introduced Canada’s Historical Stamps series to celebrate the country’s 20th-century stamp designs. The series contains coloured coins featuring old Canadian stamp-designs and also have perforations like stamps on the edges. The first coin in the series features the design of a brown carmine-coloured 3-cent stamp that was issued on 29th June 1927 to celebrate Canada’s Diamond Jubilee. It also features horizontal lines that were originally produced on the stamps as they were produced using the oldest technique of intaglio printing and line engraving.
The stamp is called Centre Block of the Parliament Buildings. It features the Peace Tower and Centre Block building on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. It had double dates 1867 and 1927 along with the text CONFEDERATION to indicate the 60th anniversary of Confederation. The reverse depicts ornamental designs, the word CANADA on a scroll-banner, bilingual POSTES / POST and the stamp’s face value 3 CENTS. The obverse features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
The coin has a dimension of 51 X 30 millimetres, weighs 31.86 grams, mintage limit of 5,000 pieces, and can be purchased for $139.95 Canadian.
