Copper Kaserah of Sultan Zain-al-Abidin

Zain Al Abidin ruled Kashmir Sultanate from 1420 till 1470 AD; He was the son of Sikandar Shah I. Zain Al Abidin had also played an important promoting Islam in Kashmir. He had also invited artist and craftsman from Central Asia to train local artists in Kashmir.During the reign Zain Al Abidin issued coins in gold, silver and copper. His gold coins are extremely rare while silver sasnus and copper kaserahs issued in large number. All the silver sasnu issued by him were struck with a fixed date 842 till the end of his reign.
One his copper Kaserah which weighs around 6.65g was sold for 2,100 by Classical Numismatic Gallery. The obverse of a coin depicts Persian legend ‘As Sultan Zain Al Abidin’ while reverse of a coin inscribed as ‘ Zarb Kashmir’.
