2018-08-20 Mon
Bolivia is a landlocked country located in western-central South America with a varied terrain spanning Andes Mountains, the Atacama Desert and Amazon Basin rainforest. Bolivia is the 5th largest country in South America and the 27th largest in the world. Before Spanish colonization, the Andean region of Bolivia was part of the Inca Empire, while the northern and eastern lowlands were inhabited by independent tribes. The Spanish conquest of the Inca empire began in 1524, and was mostly completed by 1533. The struggle for independence started in the city of Sucre on 25 May 1809 and after a long period of struggle it signed a peace treaty in 1842, putting a final end to the war.
The boliviano is the currency of Bolivia. It is divided into 100 cents or centavos. The first boliviano was introduced in 1864. In 1987, peso boliviano banknotes were overprinted with denominations in centavos and Bolivianos to produce provisional issues of 1, 5, 10 and 50 centavos, and 1, 5 and 10 Bolivianos.
In 2018, the Banco Central de Bolivia unveiled a new family of banknotes, and will be issued by order of denomination. The notes are the first to bear the formal name of Bolivia "Estado Plurinacional de Boliva" (Plurinational State of Bolivia), to reflect the multiculturalism of the country and all of its citizens.
Today we are discussing a 2 Boliviano banknote issued in the year 1987. The Note specifications are as follows:
This black on multicoloured underprint note has Antonio Vaca Diez at right with Coat of Arms at lower centre on the obverse. The reverse depicts trees and buildings at centre. You can also find the Signature titles ‘PRESIDENTE BCB and MINISTRO DE FINANZAS’, serial number suffix A and the Arms at lower centre on the reverse.
