Death Anniversary of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa

One of the most prominent religious figures of India during the nineteenth century, Sri Ramkrishna Paramhamsa breathed his last on 16th August 1886.He was born as Gadadhar Chattopadhyay on 18, 1836 to a poor Brahmin family hailed from Kamarpukur village of Hooghly district in Bengal Presidency. Ramakrishna was given to spiritual ecstasies from a young age, and was influenced by several religious traditions, including devotion toward the goddess Kali, Tantra, Vaishnava bhakti, and Advaita Vedanta.
Reverence and admiration for him amongst Bengali elites led to the formation of the Ramakrishna Mission by his chief disciple Swami Vivekananda. The Mission conducts extensive work in health care, disaster relief, rural management, tribal welfare, elementary and higher education.
To honor this great mystic and yogi, India post has issued commemorative postage stamp in 1973.
