Hyderabad Gold Half-Mohur Sold For INR 50,000

Hyderabad was a Princely State during the British rule in India. The state is located in the South-central region of India. It was founded by Mir Qamar-ud-din Khan, a governor of Deccan under the Mughal Empire from 1713 till 1721AD. In the year 1724, he became free from Mughal administration and founded Asaf Jahi dynasty. He took the title Asaf Jha and his other title Nizam-ul-Mulk became the title of his position Nizam of Hyderabad.Afzal-ad-Daula ruled Hyderabad from 1857 to 1869 CE. He struck coins in all three metals gold, silver, and copper from the Hyderabad mint.
This gold Half-Mohur was issued by Nizam of Hyderabad Afzal-Al-Daula weighs around 5.5g, was sold for INR 50,000 in an auction of Todywalla. The obverse of this coin is inscribed with the name and title of the king with the Hijri Date 1281. The reverse of the coin is inscribed with the julus formula, the mint name ‘Farkhanda Bunyad Hyderabad’ and regnal year 8.
