Suffrage Centennial Celebrated by Canada Mint and Canada Post

2016-03-09 Wed

To mark the women's suffrage centennial, a stamp and coin, designed by Tétro were released to the public on International Women's Day.

The stamp features the letters "O" and "T" in the black-and-gold word "Vote," which together create the Venus symbol of femininity. It reads "Canada Women's suffrage" in English and French, and has the dates 1916 to 2016. The leader of the women's suffrage movement Nellie McClung is featured on the collectors cover.

Manitoba was the first province where women were permitted to vote and hold office. The Royal Canadian Mint also released a limited-edition coin on Tuesday celebrating a 100 years since some women won the right to vote in Manitoba.
