Evening Grosbeak on 2015 Winter Freeze Silver Coin
2016-03-09 Wed
Winter is almost there for those in the northern hemisphere and Canadian Mint celebrated this new season with a new pure silver coin release last year – the Winter Freeze Silver Coin. The beautiful reverse design created by Canadian artists Tony Bianco and Arnold Nogy features three evening grosbeaks which are perched on ice-covered branches of a tree. The birds and berries of the tree are depicted through a colourful design. A traditional Canadian countryside is shown in the background. The glistening ice veneer of a winter freeze is recreated with a high gloss overlay. Other inscriptions around the design include ‘CANADA’, ‘2015’ and ‘20 DOLLARS’.
Susanna Blunt’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II is featured on the obverse. Inscribed around the effigy are ‘ELIZABETH II’ and ‘D G REGINA’.
