Saif Al-Din Firuz Shah ruled the Bengal Sultanate from the 1488 CE until 1490 CE. Although they ruled for a very short period of time, so some of the coin issued by him are extremely rare.

Saif-Al-Din Firuz Shah issued coins in gold and silver. Most of the coins, issued by him are in silver metal. All the coins issued by him bear the kings name with his title on the obverse and Shahada on the reverse. He used to issue all his coins from three known mints: Dar-Al-Darb, Fathadad and Khazana. One of the interesting things about his coins is they were minted in both Firuzabad and Muazzamabad but the mint name was depicted as Mahmudabad.

This gold tanks issued by him were minted in Khazana during the Hijri year 893. The obverse of this coin is inscribed as ‘Saif Al-Dunya Wa’l Din Abul Muzaffar Firuz Shah Al-Sultan Khallada Allah Mulkahu Wa Sultanahu’. The reverse of this coin is inscribed with the ‘Shahada’.

This extremely rare gold tanka was sold for INR 4,60,000 at Todywalla Auction held in Mumbai on 5th August 2018.
