The Royal Mint of Australia has released a new series of coins to commemorate the New Year, according to the Chinese Lunar cycle. Each year this lunar calendar highlights fascinating zodiac signs within the cycle of 12 years. This year arrived in February 2018 which herald the year of the Dog.

This 2018 date coin is the twelfth and the last issue of the current series. Australia Post started issuing this lunar zodiac coin from 2007; they have issued coins in gold, silver and aluminium-bronze metal. The designs of all three coins are the same.

The above shown silver coin illustrates a standing dog, according to the Chinese-stylised design. The script denoting the Year of the Dog and the year of issue, 2018 are placed on either side of the centre design. The obverse of this coin depicts the portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II facing right with inscription and date around the centre design.
