Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is always considered as one of the greatest warriors of the time, he was the founder of Maratha Empire. The real name of Shivaji Maharaj was Shivaji Bhosle but, due to his ability to protect all the people under the safe shelter, the love of the people gave him the title ‘Chatrapati’ which also means ‘Chief of Kshatriyas’.

Shivaji Maharaj was one of the bravest, progressive and sensible kings of the Maratha Kingdom who stood courageously against the vast and mighty Mughal Empire. Shivaji Maharaj is well known for his bravery and his tactics which he used against Mughals to win several wars.

Indian Government had issued 2 Rupee Commemorative coin of Shivaji Maharaj. The obverse of this coin depicts a portrait of ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’ facing towards the right in the centre and the inscription 'CHHATRAPATI' SHIVAJI’ in Devanagari and Roman around with the date 1999. This coin was minted in all four mints - Kolkata, Mumbai, Noida, and Hyderabad.

Indian Government had also issued commemorative coin 50 Rupee and 100 Rupee which were uncirculated or a proof specimen. The reverse of the coin is inscribed with ‘Ashokas Lion’ with inscription ‘SATYAMEVA JAYATE’ and denomination 2, inscription ‘INDIA RUPEES’ in Roman and ‘BHARAT RUPAYE’ In Devanagari, written on right and left the side.
