This gold mohur issued by Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II is listed for INR 48,000 in the upcoming auction which will be held in Mumbai on 5 August 2018.Shah Alam II is also known as Ali Gauhar, he was the sixteen Mughal Emperor of India and a son of Alamgir II. The Mughal Empire ruled the Indian Subcontinent during the medieval period. The golden period of Mughal Empire begins with the victory of Babar over Ibrahim Lodi in the First Battle of Panipat in the year 1526 and it started declining with the death of Aurangzeb in the year 1707.
Shah Alam II had issued this gold mohur during 22 years of his reign. The obverse of this coin is inscribed with the name and title of the king. The reverse of the coin is inscribed as the mint name ‘Dar-ul-Khilafat Shahjahanabad’ and regnal year 22.
