Silver coin of Chauhans of Ranthambore

This silver coin was issued by the Chauhans of Ranthambore during the rule of Jaitra Simha around 1275 CE. This silver dramma weight around 4.20 grams.The obverse of this coin features a lion in the centre facing left an upraised front paw, a circular ball is depicted just below the front paw. A crescent is seen on the raised curled tail within a double dotted border.
The reverse of this coin illustrates Nagari legends in three lines are inscribed, which reads ‘Jai / Ta Si De / Va’. A dotted sun/flower can be seen in the first line, left of Jai (off-flan on this specimen). The Sun/circular disk symbol usually seen on the left of Va on the third line (off flan on this specimen) and Moon/crescent on the right of Va. All within a double dotted border.
It is said the Chauhan dynasty of Ranthambore was established by Govindraja, after his banishment from King Prithviraj III court. King Hamiradeva was one of the most famous rulers of this dynasty.
