Sasanian type Drachm of Al-Walid I

Al-Walid ibn Abd al-Malik was a Umayyad Caliph who ruled from 705 until his death in 715. His reign saw the greatest expansion of the Caliphate, as successful campaigns were undertaken in Transoxiana in Central Asia, Sind, Hispania in far western Europe, and against the Byzantines. He poisoned the fourth Shi'a Imam, Zayn al-Abidin.The above shown Arab Sasanian type Drachm was issued in his reign from Sijistan mint. The obverse of a coin depicts the crowned Sasanian style bust in the centre and Arabic inscription ‘Bismillah’ followed by triple pellets and ‘Rabbi’ in outer margin.
The reverse of a coin depicts Fire altar with ribbons and attendants; star and crescent flanking flames and Arabic legend ‘Baraka’ (Blessing) in outer margin.
