World Population Day is marked to focus the attention on the problem created due to Population issues. This day was established by the Governing Council of the United Nations Development program. This issue of rapid population growth came to light due to the Day of Five Billion, in 1987 when world population reached five billion.In 2018, the theme of celebrating the world population day is based on the notion of Family planning is a human right. As this year mark marks the 50th anniversary of the 1968 International Council of Human Right when the family planning concept was introduced to the world.
There are nine standards that are followed in the human right to family planning them being: Non-discrimination, availability of information and methods, Accessibility of the resources, accurate information, informed decision making, privacy and confidentiality, Participation and Accountability.
India has played an active role in spreading awareness on this issue. To mark and spread the awareness for this rising issue, India Post has issued a stamp in 1974.
