Temple of Heaven Stamps China
2018-07-07 Sat
The Temple of Heaven is the largest sacrificial architectural group in the world. This is where the Qing dynasty emperors held a ceremony each year praying for good harvests on the 10th day of the first lunar month. These buildings have a special place in the minds of the people of China. No wonder this wonderful piece of architecture is depicted on many stamps of the nation. However, the 1909 issue is more special than the rest. The three bi-coloured stamps all depict the Temple of Heaven in Beijing.
The issues mark the first year of the reign of Emperor Hsuan Tung. He later became president and emperor of the Japanese puppet state of Manchukuo. The stamps were issued with three denominations and three colours. Stamp with the lowest denomination of two cents depicts the temple in Green colour. The 3 cent stamp has blue colour whereas the highest denominated of 7 cents is in pink colour.
Looking at historical value and background these stamps would be a very good buy.
