Stamps Celebrate 90th Anniversary of ML Vasanthakumari

The 90th birth anniversary of the revered Carnatic musician ML Vasanthakumari (MLV90) was celebrated on 3rd July at The Music Academy in Chennai. Department of Posts also released a special stamp at the function to honour the great musician. The postage stamp was received by Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as per a press release from Sri Krishna Sweets. Other important dignitaries were also present at the function.The event was organised by the founder of Samudhaaya Foundation Sudha Ragunathan. It comprised of concerts by senior students of Vasanthakumari - vocal by Trichur Ramachandran, Charumathi Ramachandran, their daughter Shubashree Ramachandran, violin by A Kanyakumari and Embar Kannan. A Little student Rahul Vellal also performed as MLV always promoted young talent. Several other programs were also held at the event.
MLV was known for her brigas and swara volleys. She had an expert grip on raga and tala as well. She also sang pallavi brilliantly and was known for her srutibhedam skills.
