2018-07-06 Fri
The second batch of new Thai Banknotes featuring an image of King Maha Vajiralongkorn is going to be released by Thailand’s Central Bank this month. Circulation of these new 500 baht and 1,000-baht notes will begin on 28th July which is also the Birth Anniversary date of the King. The first batch of new notes has been in circulation form 6th April.65-year-old King Maha Vajiralongkorn was enthroned in December 2016 after the death of his father King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The late king was greatly respected in Thailand and people even observed a mourning period by wearing black clothes until his cremation last October. Even though the new king has asserted his power, the date of his coronation has not yet been finalized. King Bhumibol has been featured on Thai Banknotes throughout 70 years of his regime. Even as the new notes come into circulation, the old ones will still remain legal tender.
