Gwalior Gold Mohur Sold for INR 5,00,000

Gwalior was a Princely State during the British rule in India. Today it is situated in the central Indian States of Madhya Pradesh. Gwalior was ruled by Scindia dynasty of Maratha. The state took its name from the old town of Gwalior, though it was never its capital, it was an important place because of its strategic location and the strength of its forts.This beautiful gold mohur was issued at mint Gohad, in the name of Mughal emperor Shah Alam II. Gohad was captured by Mahadji Scindia in the year 1784 CE from Maharaja Chhatar Singh, a ruler of Gohad, Jat state in Madhya Pradesh. Gohad remains under the control of Gwalior till 1806, later it was taken by the British government.
This extremely rare Gold Mohur was sold for INR 5,00,000 at Oswal Auction. The obverse of this coin is inscribed with name and title of Shah Alam II and the Hijri Year 1218, with the image of ‘Pistol’ as mink mark. The reverse of the coin is inscribed with Julus formula with the regnal year.
