Germany to Release Clear Polymer Ring €10 Coin in 2019
2018-06-26 Tue
The German government is going to launch a new €10 commemorative coin series featuring a polymer ring by the end of April 2019. Titled as “in the Air”, the coin would be the first release from a three-coin series called “Air Moves”. The 9.7-gram €10 coin will be made of a copper-nickel alloy just like this year’s releases. The first coins would be showcased at the 2019 World Money Fair in Berlin. The obverse depicts a paraglider, framed by the translucent polymer ring with mountains in the background. The polymer ring will be transparent and translucent to symbolize air in accordance with the topic of the series.
The reverse design would be common for the 2019 and 2020 releases, featuring the German eagle (“Bundesadler”). A German inscription translates to “Federal Republic of Germany”. Other inscriptions include €10, 12 European stars and one of the five German mint marks (A, D, F, G, and J). The smooth edge will have a German inscription that translates to “Air Moves”.
The polymer ring is an innovative security feature that was invented by the State Mint of Baden-Wuerttemberg and the Bavarian Central Mint. The mints introduced such coins in 2016 and also won Coin of the Year award in 2018.
