Silver Coins of Ghiyath Shah of Malwa Sultanate

Ghiyath Shah ruled Malwa Sultanate from 1469-1500 CE. He was the eldest son of Mahmud and had also served his father as a military leader.He had struck coins in Gold, Silver and Copper. Earlier, Ghiyath Shah minted round shaped coins and then later square shaped coins were also minted. His round coins are scarcer than his square ones.
In silver, he issued the denomination like Tanka, Half-Tanka, Quarter-Tanka, One-Eighth-Tanka and One-Thirty Tanka. Square Silver tanka issued by him was struck in both circular and square flan. One Octagonal tanka was also issued by him is extremely rare. Half-Tanka issued by him were struck in square flan; Square Half-Tanka issued him weighs around 5-5.5g. Quarter-Tanka issued by him were struck in two flans. One with the normal flan and one with Larger-Flan, both this types weigh around 2.5g. One-Eighth Tanka issued by him weighs around 1.3g and One-Thirty Tanka issued by him weighs around 0.32g.
This square Half-Tanka issued by him weighs around 5.5g. The obverse of this coin is inscribed as ‘Al-Wathiq Bi’l Malik Al-Multaji Abul Fath Abul Fath Ghiyath Shah’. The reverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Bin Mahmud Shah Al-Khalji Al-Sultan Khallada Mulkahu.
