World Refugee Day

The 20th June of each year is observed as the United Nations’ World Refugee Day. On this day people honour the courage and spirit of millions of Refugees worldwide. It also encourages the determination of the men, women and children who are forced to flee their homeland under threat of persecution and violence.In 2016, all the global leaders agreed to work towards as a Global Compact for refugees. The UN refugee Agency launched the #with Refugees petition message to the government that they must work together and do their share for it.
Many countries for years celebrated this day holding their own event, one of the most widespread is the Africa Refugee Day. In 2001, a resolution was adopted by the UN General Assembly; it also marked the 20th anniversary of the 1951 Convention relating to the status of refugee.
In 1960, United States Post issued the first UN-designated international year stamp; this stamp depicted the event dedicated by the General assembly as ‘World Refugee year’.
