William Tell on featured on a stamp

William Tell is a legendary hero from the folklore of Switzerland. His famous exploits are traced and recorded in the late 15th century in the chronicles of Swiss. In the 20th century, many stamps were issued featuring William or his son's images.The stamp illustrated here depict the portrait of William Tell. This stamp belongs to an unknown pair of un-perforated gutter 20c carmine of grilled gum stamp. A whole uncut booklet sheet of this stamp was discovered by the Swedish technician during his research on the Swiss method of coil and booklet production in 1989.
Some 60 years later, these stamps were available for sale in Sweden. Due to the careless handling of these stamps, some ten sets of these gutter pairs were destroyed. The five intact sheets of this stamp were sold for 4,130 dollars by Daniel F. Kelleher Auction in 2016.
