Datia was a Princely State during British rule in India. It is situated in North-Central India. This state was administrated as a part of Bundelkhand Agency of Central India. Datia is located on the extreme North-West of Bundelkhand, near Gwalior and it is surrounded by other Princely States of Central India. Except on the east where it is bordered upon the United Provinces.Datia was founded in the year 1735 CE by Bhagwan Das, son of Narsingh Dev of the Orchha Royal house. This ruling family were Rajputs of Bundela clan. In 1804 CE the state has concluded its treaty with the East India Company and thereafter they came under British protection and control.
After Independence, in the year 1947 CE, Maharaja of Datia acceded into Dominion of India. Datia, together with the rest of the Bundelkhand agency, became part of the new state of Vindhya Pradesh in 1950. In 1956, Vindhya Pradesh state was merged with certain other areas to form the state of Madhya Pradesh within the Union of India.
This silver Nazarana Rupee which weighs around 21.8g was issued by Devi Singh in the Hijri year 1200 during the 26th year of his reign. This coin was sold for INR 1,40,000 at Classical Numismatic Gallery auction which was held in Delhi on 19th May 2018.
