Error Grizzly Gold $200 Coin Discovered

2016-03-01 Tue

An error variety of the Proof 2016 Roaring Grizzly .99999 fine gold $200 coin, features a maple leaf security feature that is intended only on the RCM's Roaring Grizzly bullion coin, right. The mark is cantered above the space before 1 OZ OR PUR. A correct Proof coin does not include the lasermark, found on RCM bullion coins which is not the case with the error coins.

The error die is a mix of the Proof and bullion versions of the coin. Winkelmann suggests, the error likely occurred during the digital die production as the RCM uses ArtCam’s CADCAM software to generate designs for the coins.

RCM Senior Manager of Communications Alex Reeves said, “The Mint is currently looking into the matter,” at a press release on February 25th.

This is the third minting error discovered by Talisman since 2011, when the firm discovered that the Perth Mint issued the Love Forever silver 50-cent coin for Tuvalu using a Cook Islands obverse die.
