The Malwa Sultanate was a late medieval independent Sultanate of the Turkish origin in the Malwa region. In the present-day, it is located in the Madhya Pradesh state of India. It was founded by Dilawar Khan Ghori, the governor of the Delhi Sultanate, who asserted his independence in 1392 CE.

Hisam Al-Din Hushang Shah was the son of Dilawar Khan Ghori. Hushang Shah sat on the throne after the death of his father Dilawar Khan Ghori in the year 1405 CE. Hushang Shah issued coin in all three metals gold, silver and copper. The silver tanka which he issued has no margin on both the sides and both the legends are written on plain surfaces. Silver half tanka which he issued is similar to the gold tanka.

This silver tanka issued by him in the Hijri year 837 weighs around 10.8g. The obverse of this coin is inscribed as ‘Al-Sultan Al-Azam Hisam Al-Dunya Wa’l Din’. The reverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Abul Mujahid Hungshah Al Sultan’.
