Chaudhary Charan Singh, the 5th Prime Minister of India and one of the biggest icons of rural upliftment was breathed his last on 29th May 1987. His death came as a big loss to the country, his political party, and the farming communities who gained immense support from him.Charan Singh was born in a Jat family in 1902 in Noorpur, Uttar Pradesh. He entered in politics as a part of the Independence Movement motivated by Mahatma Gandhi.
Charan Singh was a true son of the soil and contributed a lot to an improvement of the Indian farmers. He is credited for the formulation and implementation of the famous Zamindari Abolition Act. He also introduced an Agricultural Produce Market Bill for the welfare of the farmers.
His death was mourned by the entire nation. His cremation site is remembered as Kisan Ghat. A commemorative postage stamp was issued by India post on the third death anniversary of Charan Singh.
